Doha has been designated as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2023, following an official ceremony at which the key to the city was presented to Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker. The decision was made by the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism during its 25th session, held at the Arab League General Secretariat on December 13. This recognition of Doha’s tourism accomplishments is particularly notable in light of the city’s successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, which has led to a significant increase in tourism to the region.
The official announcement ceremony of ‘Doha, Arab Tourism Capital 2023’ took place on February 25th, 2023, coinciding with Arab Tourism Day, and was attended by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani. During the ceremony, Al Baker expressed his gratitude to the Arab Tourist Organization for awarding the title to Doha, recognizing the nation’s serious efforts to advance and grow its tourism industry. This recognition further highlights Doha’s status as a global tourism hub and will undoubtedly further contribute to its growth and success in the years to come.
The recent achievements of Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport have further cemented Qatar’s position as a world-class tourism destination. Qatar Airways, which has been named “Airline of the Year” by the renowned Skytrax organization an unprecedented seven times, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing top-quality service to its passengers. Meanwhile, Hamad International Airport has been recognized as the second-best airport in the world by the Skytrax Airport Awards. These accolades are a testament to the exceptional standards of Qatar’s tourism industry.
Qatar has made significant investments in developing the necessary infrastructure to accommodate a surge in tourists. Examples include the Doha Metro, secure and affordable taxis, and other transportation options.
The country also boasts an array of luxurious hotels and tourist facilities, blending cultural heritage with modern sophistication. These establishments, along with various attractions throughout the nation, have received substantial support from Qatari authorities.
In a separate achievement, Qatar claimed the number one position in this year’s Numbeo Crime Index as the world’s safest country. This marks the fifth consecutive year Qatar has topped the chart, with the exception of 2018 when Japan briefly held the lead.
As a result of these achievements, many experts believe that Qatar has all the necessary characteristics to become a global hub for tourism. With its world-class airlines and airports, as well as its reputation for hospitality and cultural richness, Qatar is poised to attract even more visitors from around the world. We are excited to see what the future holds for Qatar’s tourism industry!
