The Ministry of Digital Transformation and Modernisation of Administration in Mauritania has mandated all telecommunications providers to enhance their service quality by September 22, 2024.

Businesses that fail to adhere to the order will be subject to significant penalties.

As reported by Developing Telecoms, these penalties could involve a reduction in the duration of their operating licences by up to three months, in addition to potential fines reaching MRU 540 million (US$11.4 million).

This directive follows a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the regulatory authority, National Regulatory Authority (NRA), between August 1 and September 7,  2023, which identified serious deficiencies in the services provided by the nation’s telecom operators.

The telecommunications sector in Mauritania has come under scrutiny due to perceived deficiencies in service quality, prompting a regulatory response from the government.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation and Modernisation of Administration aims to ensure that all operators meet the expectations of consumers and adhere to regulatory standards.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing digital services within the country, reflecting broader trends in the telecommunications industry globally where user satisfaction and service reliability are paramount.
