The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana has officially entered into a visa waiver agreement with the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

The agreement, signed to address challenges and inconveniences faced by travellers, was announced in a circular from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on February 20.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is, by a note referenced AD/HAV/WA dated January 31, 2024, from the Embassy of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, notifying the Service of a Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic, Service, and Ordinary Passports, signed between the Republic of Ghana and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas,” the circular read in part.

According to the GIS circular, the visa waiver applies to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports. The objective is to facilitate smoother travel between Ghana and the Bahamas.

The circular further instructs relevant aviation authorities, airline companies, and services to be informed of the signed agreement.

Adding that “per the note, the Government of the Bahamas wishes to apprise the relevant competent Ghanaian aviation authorities, airline companies, and services of the signed agreement. The waiver aims to forestall challenges and inconveniences faced by uninformed travellers between Ghana and the Bahamas.”
