The announcement of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis has sent shockwaves through Britain, prompting an outpouring of support from leaders worldwide for the ailing monarch. Buckingham Palace revealed on Monday evening that the 75-year-old King is undergoing treatment, preventing him from fulfilling his public duties for the foreseeable future.

The type of cancer was not disclosed to the public

Although the specific type of cancer has not been disclosed by the royal household, it was clarified that it is not prostate cancer. Last month, King Charles III underwent a successful operation related to a prostate condition. The cancer was discovered during his recent hospitalization at the London Clinic, a private hospital in the capital.

Following the diagnosis, King Charles returned to his Sandringham residence on Monday, where he is now receiving cancer treatment at home. Buckingham Palace conveyed that the monarch is feeling “entirely positive about his treatment.”

Messages of encouragement and well-wishes are pouring in from leaders globally as the British public remains concerned about the health of their monarch.

King Charles will hold on to his role as head of state

Despite being compelled to postpone public engagements, King Charles III will retain his constitutional role as the British head of state. He will continue handling official correspondence, including communications with the government, and participating in private meetings. The monarch personally informed his sons, William (Prince of Wales) and Harry (Duke of Sussex), of his cancer diagnosis. Additionally, he shared the news with his siblings, Prince Edward, Prince Andrew, and Princess Anne.

Despite recent tensions and media allegations, Prince Harry has announced his intention to travel to the UK in the coming days to be with his father. King Charles III’s last public appearance was at Sandringham on Sunday, attending church with Queen Camilla. This marked his only public outing since being discharged from the hospital on January 29.

Buckingham Palace has requested the public to respect the king’s right to privacy during his treatment. However, it was emphasized that King Charles III wanted his diagnosis to be made public. For years, he has been dedicated to raising awareness about the disease through his charitable organizations.
