WhatsApp continues to focus on privacy through the introduction of two features, Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup. These additions seek to build on the existing privacy infrastructure of the platform, emphasising user control and comprehensive protection.

WhatsApp’s existing security is grounded in end-to-end encryption, which secures calls and messages. However, with an aim to adapt to changing digital landscapes and threats, the company has introduced additional layers of privacy. These involve the recent Chat Lock that protects sensitive conversations with a password, Disappearing Messages that delete after being read, screenshot blocking for View Once, and the choice to conceal online activity.

The Silence Unknown Callers feature provides users with enhanced command over incoming calls. This function automatically filters out potential spam, scams, and calls from unknown contacts. It is designed to provide increased protection without causing unnecessary disturbances, as these calls do not prompt the phone to ring. Still, the calls remain visible in the Call list, ensuring that users can respond to important calls if needed.

To ensure that users are aware of these privacy options, WhatsApp has unveiled the Privacy Checkup feature. This function provides a guided walkthrough of privacy settings, facilitating personalised protection configurations. By selecting ‘Start checkup’ in Privacy settings, users can navigate through various protective measures to reinforce the security of their messages, calls, and personal data.

Recognising the importance of privacy in communication, WhatsApp is encouraging its users to utilise these features to maintain secure interactions with friends and loved ones. In the current digital age, having a secure space for communication is vital, and these new features underscore WhatsApp’s commitment to providing that secure environment and its dynamic response to user needs and ever changing digital contexts.
