On Monday, September 16, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, unveiled an artificial intelligence-generated song entitled “Boycott” to convey his solidarity with Palestine.

In his statement shared via the social media platform X, President Erdogan affirmed, “We stand with Gaza and our Palestinian brothers with our voices, words, prayers, humanitarian aid, and all the means at our disposal.” He further asserted “a commitment to support what he termed their “noble and honourable resistance.”

The song was developed by Yucel Arzen Haciogullari, a Member of Parliament from Istanbul representing the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). This artistic expression seems to stem from Turkey’s longstanding opposition to Israel’s actions in the region, particularly regarding its settlement policies in the West Bank and the prolonged economic blockade on the Gaza Strip.

Turkey intensified its efforts to advocate for Palestine following the commencement of Israel’s military offensive in October 2022, which resulted in extensive loss of life, with local health authorities reporting over 41,000 fatalities, primarily among women and children, and injuries exceeding 95,000.

Besides fostering international support for Palestine, Turkey has suspended bilateral trade with Israel and initiated legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, alleging that Israel is committing genocide against the residents of Gaza.

President Erdogan’s release of the AI-generated song “Boycott” is not merely an artistic endeavour but part of a broader strategy to galvanise international opposition against Israel’s policies while underscoring Turkey’s role as a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause.
