#TrendsArena: How Thais received passing of same-sex marriage bill

Thailand has just approved a bill to legalise same-sex marriage and the LGBTQ+ community as well as other supporters have expressed excitement about the decision by the kingdom’s Senate.

Thailand has just approved a bill to legalise same-sex marriage and the LGBTQ+ community as well as other supporters have expressed their excitement about the decision by the kingdom’s Senate.

On Tuesday June, 18, lawmakers passed the bill by 130 votes, 4 against, and 18 absentees.

After being examined by a Senate committee and the Constitutional Court and receiving royal assent from the king—a formality that is very certainly going to be granted—the legislation would become a law.

Several people took to social media, showing enthusiasm while waving rainbow-coloured flags. The British High Commissioner to Thailand, Mark Gooding, shared a heartfelt congratulations to Thailand satimg that the move “will provide many couples with legal recognition and protection of their relationships.
