For those who have longed for the days of the beloved to-do list app Wunderlist, the wait is finally over. Wunderlist, which was known for its whimsical features and delightful user experience, was unfortunately bought by Microsoft in 2015 and transformed into Microsoft To Do, leaving many users yearning for the original app’s charm. However, a group of the original Wunderlist creators, led by co-founder Christian Reber, have joined forces to bring back its spirit with the launch of Superlist.

After three years of development, Superlist is now available on Mac, iOS, Android, and the web. While it may not be an exact replica of Wunderlist, it embodies the same sensibility and retains a visually appealing interface. The app combines task management with note-taking and various types of lists, making it a versatile tool for organizing projects.

Superlist’s main focus is on lists. Users can create lists for different projects, share them with their team, and add notes, files, tasks, images, and other relevant content to each list. The app automatically recognizes and organizes tasks, providing a convenient “Today” list that includes all the tasks from every project that need attention on a given day. It also features a toggle switch for effortlessly switching between personal and professional tasks, allowing users to manage everything in one place without feeling overwhelmed.

In addition to its internal capabilities, Superlist offers integration with popular platforms such as Gmail, Slack, and GitHub. This allows users to seamlessly sync tasks between Superlist and their preferred external tools. Notably, users can even turn starred emails into Superlist tasks, ensuring that important messages are not overlooked. The app also utilizes AI to assist in converting messages and other content into tasks, prioritizing the most important information.

Superlist strikes a balance between simplicity and functionality, providing users with a streamlined solution for managing their projects. While it offers a wide range of features, it maintains a singular focus on lists. The app incorporates numerous design elements that pay homage to Wunderlist, including hand-drawn squiggles as horizontal dividers and custom images for each list. The animation that plays when a task is checked off adds a satisfying touch to the user experience.

The application is primarily designed as a business tool for team collaboration. After their disappointment with the Microsoft acquisition, it’s understandable why the company would prioritize establishing a strong business model from the start. The Pro account, priced at $8 per user per month, offers additional features such as increased collaborators, uploads, AI capabilities, and integrations. However, the free account is likely sufficient for most individuals, particularly those using it independently.
