Today is International Day of Science, Technology, and Innovation for the South. The day was designated by the leaders of the G77 and China during the Summit on Science, Technology, and Innovation, held in Havana on September 15 and 16, 2023.

The objective of this day is to promote innovation and enhance scientific capacities within developing nations, thereby bridging the widening gap between these nations and their developed counterparts.

Fostering Global Collaboration to Address Key Challenges

Following this, the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted Resolution A/RES/78/259 on January 9, 2024, affirming September 16 as a day dedicated to leveraging scientific and technological achievements for sustainable growth, in alignment with the 2030 Agenda and its associated frameworks.

Furthermore, initiatives like the Quantum Computing Mission and the Semiconductor Mission underscore India’s commitment to leading in cutting-edge technologies.
