The Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area has become the first sports venue and green open space in Indonesia to utilize 100% renewable energy, facilitated by PT PLN (Persero) providing 5.54 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) of green electricity through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) service.

The electricity will be directed to power various GBK facilities

The REC service in this venue is the result of collaboration between PLN Greater Jakarta Distribution Unit (UID) and the Bung Karno Complex Management Center.

Darmawan Prasodjo, the President Director of PLN, stated that REC represents a vital solution for decarbonization, particularly in the industrial and commercial sectors. This initiative is also a concerted effort to meet the target of reducing carbon emissions, ultimately aiming for net zero emissions by 2060.

The electricity generated will be directed to power various facilities in the GBK area, including the main stadium, indoor tennis court, center court, swimming stadium, Istora, and local infrastructure.
