Astronaut shares shot of Doha shining bright from outer space
A Japanese astronaut marvelled at Doha from above, sharing his photo of Doha’s bright lights at night from 400km above Earth for all to enjoy.
Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut, Dr Wakata Koichi, was on a scheduled spacewalk when he took a picture from the International Space Station and shared what he could see on social media on Tuesday January 31.
Koichi took to twitter: “The city lights of Doha, Qatar looked so bright when we flew over earlier today!”
For those residing in Qatar, the Corniche’s promenade, the Pearl and Lusail would be immediately recognisable. Another giveaway that it was Doha would be the racetrack, visible in the top right corner of his shot.
The 59-year-old astronaut shares various space views of other countries such as the clear skies over the city of Monterrey in Mexico or the view of a sunset over Italy. One to follow!
