Similar to the consumer versions of OpenAI’s AI-driven chatbot, users can input a prompt and receive a written response from ChatGPT Enterprise. This new tool offers unlimited access to OpenAI’s most powerful generative AI model, GPT-4, along with data encryption and a commitment not to utilize customer data for technology development. Additionally, it allows users to input much longer prompts.
The launch of ChatGPT Enterprise is a strategic step in OpenAI’s mission to monetize its widely popular chatbot, which is costly to operate due to the computational power required for robust AI models. The San Francisco-based startup has already taken steps to generate revenue from ChatGPT by offering premium subscriptions and paid access to its application programming interface (API) for companies to integrate the chatbot into their applications.
Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer, did not disclose specific pricing details for ChatGPT Enterprise, emphasizing that costs can vary based on individual business requirements.
OpenAI collaborated with over 20 companies, ranging from small startups to larger enterprises, with varying levels of AI experience, to test ChatGPT Enterprise. Current users include companies like Estée Lauder Cosmetics, Canva Inc. (a design software maker), and Zapier Inc. (an automation platform). Early adopters of the product are using it for tasks such as coding, creative work assistance, and answering business queries.
OpenAI reported that ChatGPT has been adopted by over 80% of Fortune 500 companies since its launch in November. However, some businesses have hesitated to use the chatbot and similar AI tools due to concerns about data security and privacy.
To address these concerns, OpenAI has assured that it will not train its AI models using prompts or data from companies using ChatGPT Enterprise. Instead, the startup currently trains its models using written prompts submitted by users online or through mobile apps, unless users choose to withhold them. Their software also filters out personally identifiable information received from users.
