Record: Premier League teams have spent close to £2 billion in transfer deals this summer

According to financial data released by Deloitte, Premier League clubs have collectively spent nearly £2 billion in this summer’s transfer window, with one week remaining in the transfer period. This represents an increase from the £1.92 billion spent last summer, reaching a total of £1.95 billion by midday on Friday.
Deloitte’s report indicates that clubs have spent £500 million more this summer compared to the same period last year, suggesting that the final spending figure for this summer could potentially reach £2.5 billion.
Notably, two of this summer’s transfers exceeded the £100 million mark: the transfer of Declan Rice from West Ham to Arsenal and the acquisition of Moises Caicedo by Chelsea from Brighton.
Last week, Manchester City, the reigning champions, secured the signing of winger Jérémy Doku for a reported fee of £55 million. Before this acquisition, they had already brought in defender Josko Gvardiol for €90 million (equivalent to $97 million) and midfielder Mateo Kovacic for £25 million.
Chelsea’s expenditures across the last three transfer windows, coinciding with the takeover by the consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly, have approached a staggering one billion pounds, as reported by DPA.
