ST Telemedia Global Data Centres boosts digital infrastructure in the Philippines with the largest data centre campus

Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines, a collaboration between Globe, Ayala Corporation, and STT GDC, has revealed plans to broaden its reach in Asia with the development of its most significant, highly interconnected, carrier-neutral data centre in the Philippines. This announcement coincides with the company’s first anniversary since forming the joint venture.

Known as STT Fairview, the data centre campus is the largest in STT GDC’s worldwide portfolio. The campus will cover over 83,000 square metres across four buildings and offer a potential of 124 megawatts of IT load capacity when completely developed. It is advantageously positioned within Quezon City, providing easy access to substations, transportation links, and major business hubs.

As the digital industry in the Philippines is predicted to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20% through 2030, the need for high-quality colocation services is rapidly increasing. With the launch of STT Fairview, STT GDC Philippines aims to meet this burgeoning demand and support the expansion of cloud service providers and enterprises.

The Philippine digital economy, bolstered by the growth of e-commerce, is expected to witness considerable expansion, potentially reaching a gross merchandise value (GMV) of US$35 billion by 2025 and growing twice as fast as the nation’s GDP through 2030.

STT GDC’s new facility will cater to hyperscalers and enterprises alike, offering flexible and scalable low-latency colocation options. STT Fairview aligns with the company’s commitment to carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030, incorporating various sustainable features and aiming to reduce overall carbon footprint.

Some of the sustainable measures at STT Fairview include a power usage effectiveness (PUE) design that leads the market, the use of innovative materials to reduce embodied carbon, and preparations for liquid cooling solutions to reduce energy and water consumption. Additionally, artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies will be employed to optimise operational efficiency and energy use.

The data centre will also be built to international standards, with certification aims including a LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Uptime Institute Tier III, and TIA-942 Rated 3.

Moreover, STT Fairview will establish network connections to STT Makati, offering clients access to a wide array of local and international network service providers, internet exchanges, and submarine cable systems.

With the Philippine data centre market projected to grow with a CAGR of 25% through 2027, STT GDC Philippines’ expanded data centre capacity sets a new standard, and serves the nation’s digital growth and sustainability ambitions.

STT GDC Philippines presently operates five data centres with a total IT capacity of 22MW, with over 95% of its power derived from renewable energy sources. The development of the STT Fairview data centre campus signals a significant step forward in bolstering the digital economy in the Philippines and the wider ASEAN region.
