During an unexpected visit to Paris, FIFA President Gianni Infantino presided over the renaming of Boutroux Stadium to Stade Pelé, in homage to the Brazilian soccer icon Pelé.

Infantino holds this project close to his heart, emphasising Pelé’s role as a unifying force and the first global football superstar.

He advocates for Pelé’s legacy to be known by children worldwide, which led to his call for naming stadiums globally after the legend. The Parisian stadium joins a list of international venues honouring Pelé, reflecting his pioneering skills on the field.

The event also marked Paris 13 Atletico’s rise to the French third division, although the stadium, despite upgrades, is yet to be sanctioned for hosting their league matches. The inauguration, aligned with the stadium’s new name, signifies a commitment to uphold excellence.
