Piers Morgan is switching from TV to YouTube

Piers Morgan is making a move from television to YouTube with his show “Uncensored,” as he joins the growing trend of traditional broadcasters transitioning to the digital space. Since April 2022, Morgan has been hosting “Uncensored” on British channel TalkTV. However, during his penultimate televised broadcast on Thursday, he revealed that the constraints of linear television no longer aligned with the show’s needs. Morgan acknowledged that many millions of viewers watch the show on YouTube and other digital platforms, making it impractical to condense big interviews and debates into a single hour with commercials.

Morgan is following in the footsteps of other broadcasters who have shifted their focus to social media. For example, last year, ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson launched a show on X, while former CNN anchor Don Lemon recently announced plans to launch a show on the platform, describing it as “bigger, bolder, freer” than his previous work. Scott Taunton, executive vice president and president of broadcasting for News UK, which owns TalkTV, fully supports Morgan’s decision, stating that it provides him with greater freedom to create content that resonates with his massive global online audience. Taunton also emphasized the growing trend of audiences consuming video news and opinion online through their phones and the importance of focusing on professional-quality, TV-like video that performs well on digital platforms.

In a statement, Morgan discussed the unnecessary constraints imposed by the scheduling and production of a daily television show. He expressed that taking “Uncensored” fully digital reflects the reality of where their audience is and the need to be singularly focused on that platform. He asserted that this decision aligns with the direction of modern media and criticized those who remain entrenched in outdated and narrow-minded ways of thinking.

As a result, “Piers Morgan Uncensored” will be available on YouTube starting Feb. 19. The show’s YouTube channel has already garnered 2.3 million subscribers since its launch in November 2021.
