Social media’s population hits 5 billion people
Instagram and Tik Tok are the biggest social platforms on the Internet.
The number of active users on social networks exceeded five billion people in 2023, i.e. 62.3% of the world’s population, according to an annual report published on Wednesday. This information indicates a 5.6% growth in active social media users compared to 2022, while the world population increased by 0.9%.

The report, developed by We Are Social and Meltwater, with estimates from Kepios, a specialized company in digital sector analysis, also highlights that globally there are 5.35 billion people with Internet connections.
Instagram, a part of the Meta group, holds the position of the most significant social network based on user numbers, boasting a total of 1.65 billion users. Following closely behind is TikTok, with 1.56 billion users.
Despite these figures, the report’s authors acknowledged a degree of imprecision related to automated accounts or individuals who created accounts using different identities.
