MrBeast earns over $250,000 from video on X: A turning point for the platform?

MrBeast, the world’s most popular YouTuber, has revealed that he earned over $250,000 by posting a video on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. This is a significant turnaround for MrBeast, who previously believed that posting on X wasn’t worth it due to the low advertising revenue generated. However, after uploading an old video, which has now garnered over 155 million views, MrBeast’s perspective has changed. This move has attracted attention because X has been struggling in terms of business. X’s owner, Elon Musk, has been implementing various strategies to boost engagement on the platform since acquiring it in October 2022. These strategies include revenue sharing with high-profile creators, a practice already employed by other platforms like YouTube. However, these plans have faced doubts as X’s traffic has declined, and advertising revenue has plummeted due to Musk’s ongoing disputes with advertisers over issues such as hate speech and misinformation.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, previously stated that even if a video reached “a billion views,” it still wouldn’t be worth his time to post on X. However, he decided to test the waters and see how much advertising revenue he could make from the video. In a recent post, he noted that the large sum he earned seemed somewhat deceptive. He speculated that advertisers saw the video’s popularity and purchased ads on it, resulting in a higher revenue per view than usual. MrBeast plans to give the money he earned to ten random people.

Analysts have pointed out that replicating such a substantial earnings haul without MrBeast’s massive following would be difficult.. The income potential for influencers varies based on individual deals, and the terms are usually kept confidential. However, it’s believed that the most popular online personalities can negotiate special rates.

In November 2022, Forbes estimated that MrBeast earned $54 million in a year from his YouTube channel. Since then, he has gained millions of subscribers, bringing his total to 233 million. His large audience has attracted interest from companies seeking to enhance their platforms. MrBeast is reportedly working on a deal for a show with a major streaming platform. Most of MrBeast’s income comes from YouTube, where his videos can generate over $1m per video.
