Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on Western nations to present a unified stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin and intensify their support for Kyiv, emphasizing the need to prevent Moscow from prevailing in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelenskiy expressed concern about Western indecision and the potential for a prolonged war if backing for Kyiv continued to waver. He stressed the urgency of collective action to counter Putin’s aggression.
Zelenskiy characterized Putin as a symbol of war, asserting that the international community must adapt and change to thwart the ambitions of aggressors. He discouraged the idea of freezing the conflict along current lines, stating that Putin is not content with such a stalemate.
As the forum coincided with Kyiv’s shift to a more defensive posture after an unsuccessful counteroffensive, Zelenskiy outlined the challenges faced by Ukraine, including political delays in the U.S. Congress and Brussels hindering Western assistance.
Zelenskiy highlighted the necessity of reforming conscription efforts to address manpower shortages and resolving artillery deficiencies on the front lines. During a question-and-answer session, Zelenskiy mentioned receiving positive signals about financial support from the European Union and expressed hope for swift approval of additional aid from the United States in the coming weeks.
He met with key officials on the forum’s sidelines, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, and representatives from international investors like JPMorgan.
