Belgium Dominates The Game Awards 2023 Winners’ List
The video game world keeps soaring globally but 2023 happens to be the year of Belgian company, Larian Studios. Baldur’s Gate 3 created by the studio has received enormous attention from game lovers and the gaming industry after three months of its release.
During The Game Awards gala in Los Angeles this year, Larian Studios’ game swept six prestigious awards of the night. After winning the Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3 clinched Best Performance (for voice actors or motion capture), Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer Game and Players’ Voice.
The Dungeons and Dragons-themed multiplayer game has infiltrated the gaming industry since its release last summer.
A remarkable event of the gala was the announcement of the Game of the Year by Wonka star Timothée Chalamet who is likened to the main character of the game, Lies of P by social media users.
Another ‘surprise’ at The Game Awards gala was Alan Wake II’s triple victory. Developed by Finnish studio Remedy, the game won the awards for Best Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Narrative on Thursday, December 7.
The Game Awards just as its name depicts celebrates global creators of video games. It was created in 2014 by Geoff Keighley, a well-known figure in the video game industry. It has worked over the years to gain patronage from individuals beyond the industry.
The scheme awarded Game of the Year to Elden Ring, a game developed by FromSoftware in 2022, It Takes Two developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts in 2022, and finally, The Last of Us Part II by Naughty Dog in 2020.
