Paris Louvre Museum Ticket Price Hike: Would There Be a Dip in Visits to the Most Frequented Museum in the World?

One of the perks of visiting Paris, France’s capital is the leisurely yet intentional and defined strolls through most of the fine arts and artefacts that could be found in the world at one place, the Paris Louvre Museum at an attainable and affordable fee.

This is, however, likely to change as the museum has announced a 29% increment in its ticket pricing effective 2024. The Louvre Museum ticket which originally sold at €17 ($18.30) will be bought at €22 ($23.68) from January 22, 2024. This move represents the first price hike since 2017.

In a press statement released by the Louvre Art Museum on Friday, December 8, authorities explained that more money was needed to fund the high energy costs as well as the free entry of visitors below the age of 18, journalists and teachers.

Meanwhile, the museum’s clientele is concerned about the back-to-back price hikes it will endure in the lead-up to next year as other commodity prices are being increased in anticipation of the 2024 Olympics to be hosted in France.

The Louvre Arts Museum has hosted the highest number of art enthusiasts over the years as it records over 6 million visitors annually. In 2019, the museum recorded 10 million visits which translates into about 45,000 guests on a daily. Despite the pandemic and renovation works in 2020 and 2021 respectively, the numbers spiked in 2022 with a total of 7.8 million visits.

The Louvre is home to many famous arts and paintings that you could ever think of. These paintings range from Leonardo Da Vinci pieces like the Mona Lisa, Saint John the Baptist, La Belle Ferronière as well as Andrea Mantegna’s work of Minerva Expelling the Vices from the Garden of Virtue.

However, the museum in 2022 declared its decision to limit the number of visitors per day. It hoped to achieve and maintain the number of guests daily at 30,000. Over the past few years, staff of the Louvre have raised concerns about over-attendance at the museum and this line of action by the museum aims to satisfy both guests and employees.
