Yesterday, the Security Council held a meeting to review the state of unfolding conflicts in the Gaza Strip and the temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. The representatives of the countries present in this meeting emphasized the need to extend the ceasefire and provide further humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In this meeting, the American ambassador demanded the release of all hostages and the dispatch of more humanitarian aid to Gaza. Pointing out that Hamas uses civilians as human shields, he said that this issue does not diminish Israel’s responsibility in protecting the civilians of Gaza.

The American ambassador expressed concern about the possibility of conflicts spreading to other parts of the region, including the Lebanese border. He also asked the Security Council to condemn the recent attacks of the Houthis in the Red Sea and the actions of this group in jeopardizing the security of shipping.

British representative Tariq Ahmad noted Iran’s destabilizing activities and its support for its proxy forces in the region, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad, have created an unacceptable threat to the region.

In this meeting, both American and British counterparts expressed their concern over the increase in violence by “extremist Israeli settlers” against Palestinians in the West and stressed the importance of protecting the lives of the Israeli and Palestinian people.

Referring to the death of more than 200 Palestinians in the West Bank, Ahmad supported statements condemning the violence of Jewish settlers against Palestinians and called on Israel to hold those responsible for this violence accountable.
