This is what various award schemes across the globe do for actors, directors, and scriptwriters. But which of these awards creates the biggest smiles and satisfying reactions from these workers? Relax as we take you through the five most prestigious awards on the globe in no particular order.

Palme d’Or – The Cannes Film Festival

The “Palme d’Or” is the ultimate award at the Cannes Film Festival celebrated annually in Cannes, France. The festival has been in existence since 1946, rewarding and appreciating the art and influence of movies. The “Palme d’Or,” however, was introduced in 1955 and the first recipient of this award was  Delbert Mann for his film Marty. The trophy features a single crystal and a golden palm in a wax seal. Before 1955, the festival’s highest prize was the “Grand Prix du Festival International du Film.” The winner of this prize for 2022 is Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness”. The 77th edition of the festival will take place from Tuesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 25, 2024.

The Oscars

The Oscars is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the film industry. Winning a Golden Oscar plaque is the surest way to land at the peak of an individual’s acting career. It has honoured over 10,000 movie industry players since 1929. The Academy Awards ceremony for the previous year is expected to come off on March 10, 2024. Its first show in 1929 had in attendance 270 guests at the Academy banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the Academy’s website states.

Golden Globe Awards

Just like many movie awards, the Golden Globe Award is also one for the books. Right around the corner, the board will pick up from where it left off to award outstanding producers, directors, and actors of exceptional movies that made our 2023 memorable on January 7, 2024, at Beverly Hills in the United States of America. The ultimate award at this ceremony is the “Best Motion Picture-Drama”. The plaque also has a golden body with a sphere atop it.

Best Film – European Film Awards

The European Film Awards has served the European movie market since 1988. Established by the European Film Academy, the aim has always been to acknowledge the superb cinematic achievements of the continent’s film industry. Now, if you are a nominee on the night, your utmost desire will be to clinch the Best Film Award. The ceremony is held around early mid-December of every year. The plaque for this scheme is mostly a silvery statue of a woman and is only awarded to European directors and actors.

Golden Bear – Berlin Film Festival

The Golden Bear, like any other award scheme, is what creatives breathe for at the Berlin Film Festival. Also known as the Berlinale, it has been in the rewarding business since 1951. This was inspired by the freedom the Berlin people enjoyed after the period of the “Cold War”. The 2023 Berlinale awarded its prestigious award, the Golden Bear to Nicolas Philibert’s film Sur l’Adamant (On the Adamant), while Christian Petzold won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize for his film Afire. It will be held again this year from February 15-25, 2024.
