Porsche has revealed its latest Macan SUV, which now boasts a fully electric design and is constructed on a specialized EV framework.
The recent announcement has provided more clarity and marks the first appearance of the non-camouflaged Macan. The initial release will consist of two options: the Macan 4, with a starting price of $78,800, and the Macan Turbo, starting at $105,300.

The Macan’s design is based on a fresh platform, PPE (Premium Platform Electric), created in collaboration with Audi. This advanced platform utilizes an 800 V powertrain, a notable enhancement from the Porsche Taycan.

Driving the Macan Turbo is a highly enjoyable experience. Thanks to rear-wheel steering, the vehicle has an impressive level of agility, and the two-valve dampers effectively create the illusion of a lighter car. But don’t underestimate the power of the Macan 4; with up to 402 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque at its disposal, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds when merging onto a highway.

The Macan Turbo boasts impressive speed numbers, up to 630 hp (470 kW) and 833 lb-ft (1,130 Nm). Porsche says it can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. Top speeds vary between models, with the Macan 4 reaching up to 136 mph (219 km/h) and the Macan Turbo topping out at 161 mph (260 km/h).

Porsche has remained faithful to the Macan styling formula. The design remains sleek and streamlined, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.25 thanks to advanced aerodynamic features such as active shutters that can cover radiator inlets for improved efficiency when cooling is unnecessary.

The electric Macan offers increased practicality compared to its predecessor. Its cabin provides added space, especially in the back seat, due to a more efficient layout made possible by the new platform. Additionally, there is a 2.9 cubic foot (82 L) frunk in the front and 18 cubic feet (510 L) of cargo storage in the rear when the seats are upright, which expands to 46.5 cubic feet (1,316 L) when they are folded down.

In December, Porsche (along with Audi, Scout Motors, and Volkswagen) revealed plans to switch to the J3400 DC fast-charging standard (formerly known as NACS). This will eventually grant access to the Tesla Supercharger network, but not until 2025. The upcoming 2024 Macan models will be equipped with CCS1 fast-charging ports and a second J1772 AC port on the opposite side.

The Macan can quickly charge at an 800 V DC charger, reaching rates of up to 270 kW and bringing its battery from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. Similarly, when using a 400 V DC charger, the battery divides into two 400 V packs, allowing each to charge at a maximum rate of 135 kW.

According to Porsche, certain specifics of the Macan, such as its EPA range, will only be revealed closer to the launch date. Delivery of the vehicle is scheduled for later this year.
