Navigating menopause, unveiling the 40 symptoms – Laetitia Saint Maur

Menopause can bring about up to 40 different symptoms that affect not only the body but also the mind and emotions, reveals Laetitia Saint Maur, co-founder of women’s health site ‘menopause divine’. From mood swings and heart palpitations to flushes, night sweats and weight gain; these symptoms collectively impact around 80% of women going through menopause.

Exploring the complexities of women’s health, Laetitia sheds light on the overlooked aspects of menopause, during an interview on The Qonversation. With the aim of bringing clarity, she discusses the concepts of menopause and perimenopause, uncovering the symptoms that women may experience during this phase.

She described menopause as “the day that a woman has 12 consecutive months without any period… And it will happen usually between 45 to 55 years old. But this can happen earlier.” She added that, perimenopause, a known stage that can last from a month to a decade before menopause begins, as early as in ladies’ late 30s.

Speaking on ‘The Qonversation’ with the host, Eleanor Sa-Carneiro, Laetitia presents statistics that highlight the magnitude of this phenomenon. According to projections by the World Health Organisation, by 2030 1.2 billion women will have experienced menopause. “40% of women are thinking of changing jobs because of menopause impact. and 12% actually do. 65% say it also affects their relationship, their personal life, and 70% say they will have mental health issues,” she stated.

Despite these figures Laetitia maintains a positive outlook. She supports the use of remedies and supplements, in conjunction with therapies providing women with a glimmer of hope in the midst of the intricate challenges posed by menopause. In her pursuit to raise awareness and provide assistance, her online platform stands out as a source for women who are navigating through the range of symptoms associated with menopause which can often be overwhelming.
