In the upcoming June 2 election, Sheinbaum, supported by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and the MORENA party, holds a 48% share of voting intentions, as per the January poll released on Monday. Galvez, the primary opposition candidate, follows in second place with 32%, while the third candidate, Jorge Alvarez Maynez, garners 10% of voting intentions.

In a previous December poll, Sheinbaum was ahead of Galvez by 22 points, with a score of 52% compared to Galvez’s 30%.

This year, Mexico is poised to potentially elect its first female president. Lopez Obrador, who remains widely popular, is constrained by a single six-year term limit by law.

Sheinbaum’s overall approval rating is currently at 49%, a one-percentage-point decrease from the previous poll. Positive opinions of Galvez, on the other hand, have risen to 37%, up from 32% last month. Additionally, her negative rating has declined by 6 percentage points to 44%.

The poll, conducted via phone between January 12-13 and 26-27, surveyed 1,000 adults nationwide.
