Kenyan achieves longest science lesson record
A teacher at the St Augustine Academy school in Kenya has made a record-breaking attempt with the longest Science lesson taught worldwide.
Rose Tata Wekesa taught from February 13 for 62 hours and 33 minutes. The teacher who engaged her students at the Multimedia University of Kenya only took breaks of 20 minutes every four hours, The Star confirms.
The entire science lesson covered topics spanning Chemistry and Biology including the periodic table with each session streamed live on her YouTube channel at intervals of 12 hours.
According to her, she decided to pursue this to encourage the youth to embrace the sciences.
"I am doing this to encourage young students not to fear science subjects as everything in the world is based on Science. If we don't encourage them to embrace science, we are going to have a problem in the future," Wekesa was quoted by The Star.
Wekesa is hoping to get an endorsement and verification by the Guinness World Record after the submission of all evidence.
Wekesa’s achievement is one of many others attained by many individuals in African countries including Nigeria and Ghana. Competitions including cook-a-thons and sing-a-thons have been the order of the day with respective individuals trying to outdo their predecessors and earn names for themselves in the Guinness World Records.
