President of the United States Joe Biden formally withdrew from the presidential contest on July 21, 2024, endorsing his vice, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic Party’s contender.

After President Joe Biden declared his intention to withdraw from the race on November 5, Harris was able to swiftly mobilise Democratic support.

A survey conducted by ABC News and Ipsos claims that Vice President Harris’s popularity increased by 8%. In addition, the survey revealed that 43% of voters supported Harris.

Also, in one week, the Kamala Harris campaign raised $200 million. According to the campaign, the majority of the contributions made during the 2024 election cycle came from new donors.

Voters and commentators around the world have praised her for coming across as relatable and true to herself since the announcement – she is alert, but also at ease and confident in her own skin.

Another viewpoint held by some is that Kamala Harris would make a strong contender if it is true—as some have claimed—that anyone under the age of 80 who still has a pulse can defeat Donald Trump. Her main advantage over Donald Trump or Joe Biden for leading the most powerful nation in the world is that she is not one of them.

But next month’s Democratic National Convention will determine if Harris will become the party’s nominee.
