African animated series wins multiple prestigious awards
South African Ireland-based Triggerfish Animation Studio has bagged a series of prestigious awards for its work in animation particularly for its hit series, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire available on Disney+.
The African animated sci-fi series clinched awards in the US state of California, the esteemed Annie Award for Best Limited Series (TV/Media) in a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 17 and the Kidscreen Award for Best Animated Series (Tweens/Teens) in San Diego.
“The affirming acknowledgement from these global awards marks a significant milestone not only for all at Triggerfish, but the African animation industry too, highlighting the growing recognition and appreciation for fresh storytelling and authentic representation of African narratives in animation,” Triggerfish Executive Producer, Anthony Silverston said.
Since hitting screens in July 2023, the action-packed animated sci-fi series has captivated audiences worldwide. Drawing from Africa's diverse histories and cultures, it presents futuristic visions, boasting a compelling narrative, vibrant imagery, and original characters.
The show highlights the remarkable teamwork of the 14 directors from various African countries, such as Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, under the direction of executive producers Peter Ramsey, Tendayi Nyeke, and Anthony Silverston.
Triggerfish also bagged an Annie Award for Best Music – TV/Media for its short film "Aau’s Song," created for the "Star Wars: Visions Vol. 2" anthology series and a Lumiere Award for the Best Episodic – Animated. Its original “Supa Team 4” on Netflix is also up for Best International Series at the British Animation Awards in March 2024.
Triggerfish also announced that the multi-award winning series would be screened at the New York International Children's Film Festival, which will take place from March 2–March 17, 2024.
